Having friends in your life is important. Through the tragedy and celebrations, it is good to have someone by your side for it all. Today I want to review the qualities and different types of friends that you experience in your life.
Let us start off with the different types of friends:
1.The parental figure
This is that friend that, you guessed it, acts like your mom or dad. They give you that disappointing look when they believe you have done something immature and give advice like a parent would. These friends are great for advice.
2.The funny one
The friend that always know hows to make you laugh, even on your worst days. They know how to win over a whole crowd of people in social settings.
3.The brave one
This person loves to go on adventures and frequently convinces you to try risky things that you would not normally do.
4. The emotional one
They often like to talk about their feelings which then convinces you to talk about yours. You can talk about loss, love, and much more with them. These are the friends that you have those deep, late night chats about life with.
5.The smart one
They know everything about everything and you turn to them for information. You can learn so much from talking to them.
6.The party one
This is the friend that often convinces you to go to parties or to go out drinking. They love a good party or even just a fun night out.
7. Family
They feel like a long lost cousin or sibling. They are not afraid to be honest with you about anything and will never judge you for being yourself (unless it is in a joking way of course). Or they are actually your biological family members. Family can often be considered our close friends as well.
So now that we have gone over the types of friends, let us now go over the qualities of friends.
Let us get into: Negative vs. Positive Traits
What are some negative traits that a friend can possess? Please see below:
1. Jealousy- This could be a friend that is jealous because of your success or they could even be jealous that you have other friends. Either way they bring you down instead of build you up and make you feel guilty for your successes in life.
2.The Gossiper-Someone that is always intent on bringing the conversation back to talking about someone else. Think about it, if they are talking about other people in a negative way, imagine what they are saying about you when you are not around.
3. Ghosting- This is the friend that decides they only want you in their life when it is convenient for them. They disappear for months or even years at a time and resurface when they decide they need you or when they are bored.
4. Selfish-This is the friend that always talks about themselves. When it comes time for you to speak, they somehow always bring the conversation back to themselves and their troubles.
5. The Complainer-Honestly there are just some people out there that are so negative no matter the situation. They will pick apart every positive thing in their lives (and your life) and make it negative. As a friend, this can be mentally draining after a certain point.
Now that we have gone over some negative qualities of a friend, let us review some positive ones.
1.Positive- This is that friend that always radiates positivity no matter the situation. They are wise and they always know exactly what to say. It does not matter if you are feeling blue or happy they will always have just the quote for you.
2. Thoughtful-This is when a friend sees something and sends you a picture or buys it for you simply because it reminds them of you. Or maybe you are having a difficult time and they buy you a fruit basket to cheer you up. Either way, they are always there to brighten your day.
3. Listener-This friend is there on your good and bad days and loves to hear what is going on in your life. This is the friend that also remembers little things about you that you mentioned forever ago.
4. The Checker-This is the friend that checks up on you every so often to see how you are doing and feeling. That little text or phone call saying that they are thinking of you can make even your worst days better.
Now that we have reviewed different friend types as well as the negative/positive traits that friends can have, I want you to think about the type of friend that you are. Also, review the negative/positive traits that friends can have. Which ones apply to you most? If you see yourself possessing some of these negative traits, recognize this and try to work on it so that you can be a better friend to those in your life.
I also want you to think about the family/friends in your own life. What types of friends are they? Do they possess more of the positive or negative traits? If one or some of your friends is having a negative impact on you, try to sit them down and have a talk. If that does not work, it may be time to cut out the toxic friends in your life.
I am personally blessed to have some of the most amazing friends and family in my life. After writing this article, I am also going to take the time to evaluate what type of friend I am along with the traits I possess.
Feel free to comment what type of friend you are. Are there any friend types or negative/positive traits of friends that I may be missing? Let me know in the comments below! Please also check out the link below for more friend types.
