Board and Card Games

Growing up, I was always a fan of board and card games. Whether it was Apples to Apples or the Game of Life, it was a great way to pass the time with friends or family.. Now with all the video games and computer games out there, I feel that board and card games often get overlooked.  So today I’m talking about the advantages of playing board games.

  1. Bonding

Whether you have a group of six or two, board games are a great bonding experience. Playing a game starts up conversations that you may not have had otherwise. It’s helpful when you can’t think of anything to say. Some games, you are on a team. This helps you work together and get to know people that you may not otherwise, all while getting a good laugh in as well. Also, it’s fun to see who gets competitive.

  1. Variety

I love introducing friends and family to different board games. It’s a good way to step away from the screens and dive into some fun. Some of these games take hours to play yet some are under 20 minutes. There’s a whole variety of options to select from. You just have to find the board or card game that is right for you. Maybe it’s the theme of the board that entices you (Target themed monopoly for example). Or maybe it’s the strategy of the game that you enjoy. The point is, if you hate one board or card game, don’t discount them all as a result.

  1. Learning

The first step to playing any game is learning. You have to take in the instructions and process what the goal will be. A lot of board games have a strategy to them. Some require more thought than others. No matter what, learning is always beneficial to you. Plus, playing these games really helps with your problem solving and critical thinking skills which can be helpful in most jobs. Maybe you are playing board games to keep your brain sharp.Or maybe you just need a break from binging your favorite tv show. Whatever the reason, I guarantee you’ll be happy that you did it.

  1. Entertaining

If I ever have people over and see them looking bored, you best believe it’s time for board games. These games are perfect when you can’t think of what you want to do. Or if you are stuck at home, and the weather is bad, board games are the answer. Or maybe your internet and power is out-guess what-light some candles and bust out the board or card games. Maybe you want to get your kids away from the screens for a while? Yes, board games are a great solution. The kids can never say that they are bored again (although I’m sure they still will).

Board games are entertainment that you have in your back pocket (or at your house) at any time. You can find a variety of board and card games at places like Barnes and Noble, Target, Go! Calendar Toys and Games, your local board game store or you can even order online. Let’s keep the board and card games going. As always thanks for reading and let me know your favorite board game in the comments below! I personally have too many favorites to decide! My most played games are probably Horrified, the Taco Bell Game, the Blockbuster Game and Mantis.
