Dreams

When you are a kid, life seems full of possibilities. You can take up an instrument, join a sports league, or join a club. You can be a Boy Scout or a Girl Scout. You can join a gymnastics team. You can explore anything and everything you want. You are constantly learning new concepts in school and extracurriculars as well. But once you get your first job, the learning is based solely on that. Aside from that, most people don’t take the time to really learn.

Think back to when you were six years old. You and your sister are doing a sing and dance routine for your parents while they act all proud and excited. Remember thinking you wanted to be a singer when you grew up? Or that you could be an astronaut? Or a doctor? Or anything you wanted? At what point does that start to change? At what point do we start considering that maybe we can’t do those things? That maybe we can’t pursue our dreams exactly how we envisioned them.

Maybe there is something that you have always wanted to try but never did like an exercise class, cooking class, painting, writing, knitting, etc. Why not try these things? Sometimes we have to challenge ourselves in a way that helps us fulfill our childhood dreams. Yes, it could be your career. Or it could be something that fulfills you outside of work. Or it could be something on the side that you eventually make into your career. The point is, however you do it, don’t stay stagnant. Don’t get so swamped with the 9 to 5 and the busyness of life that you forget to find ways to challenge yourself and get out of your comfort zone. Trying something new can feel like a breath of fresh air. Something you didn’t realize you needed.

So maybe your dreams didn’t pan out exactly how you thought they would when you were a kid. Dreams change and there are many aspects in life that can change that as well. I encourage you to pursue something you are passionate about. Whether it’s a new hobby, a new workout class, a side hustle or a new career path. Even if you cut out just 15 minutes each day to dedicate to this. Invest something back into yourself. You deserve it!
