As we get older, the pressures of work and life take over.
Sometimes we are just so busy that the free time we do have is spent sleeping or becoming one with the couch as you binge your favorite television show.
But what if instead of binging that show, we took the time to indulge in the activities we loved as a kid? There is so much nostalgia in playing board games that you used to love. Or visiting somewhere you went as a kid. A lot of people don’t get to experience the things they did as a kid until they have kids themselves.
But what if I told you that you don’t need to actually have a kid in order to be a kid again?
Okay, by being a kid again, I don’t mean physically going back in time. But you can still experience the excitement of it all. I’ve gathered some activities that remind me of my childhood below.
- Amusement Parks
There is something about amusement parks that really fills me with nostalgia. Maybe it’s the carnival music? Or the sweet treats? Or the excitement of hearing everyone screaming on the first drop of a roller coaster? Whatever it is, amusement parks are a fun day out. You can gather some friends and spend the day at the park.
A lot of adults go to amusement parks. I mean have you seen the Disney adults?
I’m here to tell you that there is nothing wrong with going to the amusement park. Plus, a lot of amusement parks also sell alcohol. So win, win I guess?
- Arcade Games
I loved going to the New Jersey boardwalk growing up and playing games. The triumph of winning a plush or of winning enough tickets to get the prize you want is forever ingrained in my brain. You can still do all that if you want to. But there are plenty of arcade bars for adults these days too. Like Dave and Busters and Round One. You can play arcade games, pool, bowl etc and have a drink in your hand while doing it. I call that the best of both worlds. So get out there with your partner and have a fun day at the arcade. I guarantee you won’t regret it.
- Mini Golf
Another great pastime of the Jersey Shore, mini golf. I, as a 30 year old, still play mini golf whenever I get the chance. The good news is that they typically have indoor and outdoor courses so you don’t have to rely on the weather. If you don’t have the shore near you, there are still plenty of local mini golf courses that are popping up as well. This could be a fun activity with or without kids.

Don’t Let Others Get to You
If somebody makes fun of you for enjoying arcades, amusement parks or mini golf as an adult, then they are just unhappy with themselves. Don’t be afraid to have fun! Play board games if you want to. Finish a puzzle. Enjoy the activities you used to do as a kid. Don’t let the haters get to you. Just because you are an adult doesn’t mean you have to be boring. So get out there and make your inner child smile!
I would love to hear from all of you in the comments. Let me know your favorite activity from your childhood!
